Maidstone Young Musician
MAIDSTONE YOUNG MUSICIAN COMPETITION 2025
What is it? This is the culmination of highest quality performances in classes at Maidstone Music Festival, and the winner of this competition holds the title of ‘Maidstone Young Musician’ for the coming calendar year. The aim is to support and encourage musical development and confidence.
Who runs it? The Rotary Club of Maidstone Dawn Patrol.
When is it? Sunday 1st December at 3.00 pm bringing together the Maidstone Music Festival Highlights Concert and the Maidstone Young Musician competition.
Where is it? Invicta Grammar School.
What is the standard? The standard is advanced (above grade 6); players are chosen from competitive solo classes at the Festival. All styles of music are accepted, but backing tracks are not allowed except for vocal, guitar and percussion performances, and must not contain the part being performed by the soloist.
Who can enter? Instrumentalists and singers aged under 19 on 31st August 2025. Please note that full time students of music or performing arts above A level or its equivalent are not eligible to participate.
Why should I enter? This is a prestigious competition. Most winners have gone on to successful careers in the music world, and mention in their CVs having been Maidstone Young Musician. Last year’s winner and runner-up have since gained first place in their categories in national competitions. Trophies are presented to the winner and runner-up, and the ‘Young Musician of Promise’ shield is held by the person in third place for the year. Each finalist receives a certificate.
How can I enter? Make sure that you tick the MYM box on your Maidstone Music Festival entry forms; and give permission for your contact details to be shared with MYM organisers.
How does it work? If you gain a mark of Outstanding or Exceptional in your Festival classes, you can be recommended to be an MYM finalist by mmf adjudicators and staff. A maximum of eight finalists will be selected and contacted immediately after the Festival.
